Asian Drivers
The Asian Driver Sub Saharan Africa Programme
The DPP has an extensive programme of research on SSA through the International Development Centre.
The DPP’s Asian Driver programme places particular emphasis on the impact of the Asian Drivers on SSA, where it works in close cooperation with the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC).
This AERC-led SSA Asian Driver programme:

Uses a common analytical framework to assess the impact of the Asian Drivers
- Involves four cross-cutting themes
- Has completeted 21 country-studies, each looking at aid, FDI and trade links with China
As a new initiative, and in collaboration with African partners at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, the Open University Asian Driver programme will be launching a new programme of work on how SSA countries and manage the commodity boom to ensure that opportunities are maximised and threats minimised.
